The Company starts construction of industrial sulphur plant

Gazprom neftekhim Salavat started implementation of another investment project — industrial sulphur plant with a capacity of 60 kta.

The Company starts construction of industrial sulphur plant

The site prepared for new construction

Industrial sulphur plant is intended for processing of additional hydrogen sulphide volumes which will be formed after start-up of the new catalytic cracking complex and revamping of hydrotreatment units on a phased basis. The plant will comprise a process unit and a loading rack for rail tank cars.

— The new industrial sulphur plant is an ecologically vital project which is aimed to reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere. After start-up of the catalytic cracking complex and revamping of hydrotreatment units the amount of sulfurous gas will increase, so the existing capacities for its processing will be insufficient, — says Aleksandr Startsev, Head of Capital Construction Department, Gazprom neftekhim Salavat. — The unit will process sulfurous gas, producing industrial sulphur. Sulphur recovery efficiency will make at least 99.2 %. Further Industrial sulphur will be sold as a finished product. The new plant is scheduled for start-up in the fourth quarter of 2020.

At the Oil Refinery sulfurous gas is presently formed at hydrotreatment, gas fractionation, sulfur-alkaline waste water neutralization units and at catalytic cracking units as a by-product. It is processed at the operating elemental sulphur recovery unit producing industrial sulphur. The existing unit capacity is 38 kta. This unit will keep operating even after start-up of the new plant. Thus the two plants will be able to process all the sulfurous gas formed at Gazprom neftekhim Salavat production site.

For reference:
