Project for automated data transfer is implemented

As part of the implementation of the automation systems development program at Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat LLC, employees of Chief Metrologist Department eliminated manual calculation for cartograms of self-supporting parameters by introducing automated data transfer into the company's PI System.

The project was implemented in 11 shops of the oil refinery, gas chemical plant and Monomer plant. Modernization of self-supporting units of material flows included the replacement of primary pneumatic devices, converters with electronic ones and the transfer of readings to modern videographic recorders or to process control systems with further transfer of readings to the PI System.

“We eliminated the manual calculation of cartograms, that is, the calculation of the daily consumption of material flows on paper, and introduced automated data transfer,” explains Alexei Malkin, chief specialist of the Chief Metrologist Department.

All activities were carried out without the involvement of outside organizations. The project documentation was developed by the design department of company's Chief Mechanic Department, installation and commissioning works were carried out by specialists from Chief Metrologist Department and the Department of Information Technology and Communications.

To date, work on the modernization of material flow metering units is almost completed. The implementation of the project made it possible to improve the accuracy of measurements and automate data collection, which has become a great contribution to improving the quality of material balances and accounting for the movement of material flows.

“Transferring readings of self-supporting parameters to the PI System opened up the possibility of monitoring the consuption of self-supporting flows online, made it possible to adjust the consumption on basis of current pressure and temperature,” comments Evgeny Sheptunov, head of the production and technical division of Chief Metrologist Department. — This improved the accuracy of flow measurements with adjustments in the operating parameters of the media. After the installation of modern equipment, the calibration period of instruments has increased, and the time for servicing material flow metering units has decreased.

For reference:

Gazprom neftekhim Salavat is one of the largest oil refining and petrochemical complexes in Russia. The Complex was founded in 1948.

The Company is integrated into the Gazprom system. It has the basic advantage: consolidating on a single site a full cycle of crude hydrocarbons processing, petrochemistry and mineral fertilizers production. The Company comprises the Oil Refinery, Gas & Chemical Plant and the Monomer Plant.

Gazprom neftekhim Salavat produces more than 150 items, over 50% of which are bulk products including motor gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil, styrene, polystyrene, low density polyethylene, high density polyethylene, DOP plasticizer, butyl alcohols, sulphur, ammonia, urea, acrylic acid, butyl acrylate etc.

The products are shipped to all federal subjects of the country. Export supplies of oil products are mainly directed to European and CIS countries. Petro- and gas chemicals are exported to over 30 CIS and non-CIS countries and the largest volumes are shipped to Kazakhstan, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Poland, Belgium, Finland etc.

High quality of Gazprom neftekhim Salavat output is confirmed by certificates of conformity to ISO 9001 and 14001, the international standards of quality and environmental safety.
