Waste water treatment requires increased attention
Oil refinery plant of Gazprom neftekhim Salavat is reaching completion of large-scale project implementation which is the construction of Sulfur-Alkaline Waste Water Neutralization Unit. First section of the unit was started up in the end of the last year — floatation waste treatment section.
Sulfur-alkaline wastes come as the result of company’s production activity. These wastes contain persistent chemical pollutants including aromatic compounds and phenols which are highly resistant to biodegradation. Start-up of new high-tech Sulfur-Alkaline Waste Water Neutralization Unit will provide the possibility to send wastes onto advanced treatment at company’s sewage treatment facilities without any violations in technology of waste treatment facilities. Irrecoverable water losses as result of waste water issue will end up and this will allow Company to reduce water consumption and as a consequence decrease the load on ecosystem of the Belaya River which appears to be an essential waterway of our republic.
Start-up of the Sulfur-Alkaline Waste Water Neutralization unit will provide the possibility to decrease the load on treatment facilities and put the water back to aquicultural cycle.
«The distinguishing feature of specifically designed system of advanced treatment of sulfur-alkaline wastes is that the wastes will undergo physical-and-chemical, mechanical and biological treatment before going to the main treatment facilities. This complex approach will be implemented by start-up of new Sulfur-Alkaline Waste Water Treatment Unit» — Eduard Titukh, oil refinery production manager, says.
The unit consists of three sections. First, the wastes from oil refinery and Monomer plant units will go to the first section — floatation waste treatment section which clears the wastes from petrochemicals and suspended particles. This section was started up in the end of the last year.
Two other sections, ammonia nitrogen and sulfur waste water neutralization section and phenol waste water neutralization section are under ongoing commissioning. By this moment, pre-commissioning on rotating machinery and equipment and tests on alarm system and emergency shutdown system are completed. Inspection of fire-fighting alarm system and automatic fire suppression systems are also successfully completed.
The Company presented the progress in fulfilling the obligations on ecological program within the framework of an open press-tour. An important issue of this program is the start-up of Sulfur-Alkaline Waste Water Neutralization Unit.
«The construction of Sulfur-Alkaline Waste Water Neutralization Unit will help Gazprom neftekhim Salavat to solve the waste utilization issue and significantly reduce the negative effect on environment in the region, — says Oleg Burkov, Chief Ecologist, Head of HSE Department. — Beyond that the start-up of this unit will allow Gazprom neftekhim Salavat to uphold the current legislative norms in the area of water supply and waste water systems.»
