Gazprom neftekhim Salavat presents a project at Innoprom-2023
A project for construction of superabsorbent polymer (SAP) production unit at the industrial site of Gazprom neftekhim Salavat has a key priority on import substitution for the whole country since such production has never existed in Russia.
Bashkiria has participated in Innoprom-2023, an international industrial exhibition held in Ekaterinburg, with a stand named “Development of petrochemical complex in Bashkortostan is the basis of the Russian technology sovereignty”. The delegation of the republic placed emphasis on the goods of Special Economic Zone “Alga” as well as on the main investment projects envisaging construction of new industrial facilities. These include, in particular, the construction of superabsorbent polymer (SAP) production unit initiated by Gazprom neftekhim Salavat.
Acrylic Acid and Butyl Acrylate Production Plant manufacturing acrylic acid, butyl acrylate and glacial acrylic acid was put into operation by Gazprom neftekhim Salavat company group in 2017. The company uses its own propylene and butanol during the manufacturing process. In this regard, the production of superabsorbent polymer is the next logical stage of the project. This water-absorbing material is used as the main component in the production of hygiene and medical products such as baby diapers, feminine hygiene and adult incontinence products.
Under the prevailing circumstances, the project of Gazprom neftekhim Salavat to construct the SAP production facility is becoming increasingly relevant. Gazprom Linde Engineering developed the design documentation; the technology license agreement was concluded with Superabsorbent Technologies AG (Switzerland). The company has every chance to fill a free market niche and become the only SAP manufacturer in the country. The consumption of this product is growing every year. The implementation of the import substitution project will allow the company to cover 60–70% of superabsorbent demand in Russia.
Superabsorbents are included in the list of the products with the highest import substitution priority in accordance with the order of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade dated November 15, 2022. The SAP production of Gazprom neftekhim Salavat is in the List of the priority investment projects (“pull” projects) for the production of small-scale and medium-scale chemical products, which have a significant impact on the development of the related economic sectors.
From July 10 to July 13, 2023, for the 13th time, Еkaterinburg hosts the International Industrial Exhibition Innoprom-2023. This year the exhibition brought together the participants from 60 regions of Russia and 35 countries. In total, about 700 companies took part in the event, which became a record in its entire history. The main topic of Innoprom-2023 is «Sustainable production: Renewal strategies».
