Enhanced Reliability of Power Supply to EP-355

Gazprom neftekhim Salavat reconstructed the distribution transformer substation RTP-64.

Enhanced Reliability of Power Supply to EP-355

Employees in the renovated substation RTP-64

The reconstruction of the distribution transformer substation RTP-64 was included in the project of the Water Circulation Unit modernization of Shop No. 58, within the framework of which a new cooling tower, new pumps, electric engines and other electrical equipment were also installed.

— RTP-64 is a step-down substation. Its complex equipment accepts high voltage of 6 kV at the input, power transformers reduce it to nominal values of 0.4 kV to ensure the corresponding electrical loads of the Water Circulation Unit, Shop No. 58, which is one of the key facilities for ethylene-propylene production at EP-355, — says Evgeny Khasanov, Head, Operational Dispatching Division of the Chief Power Engineer Department. — The renewed distribution transformer substation is equipped with energy-efficient and high-tech equipment, systems enabling to automate the control and monitoring of the substation facilities. All key equipment in line with the project was supplied by domestic manufacturers.

As part of the reconstruction at the substation RTP-64, there was installed a new 6 kV switchgear consisting of high-voltage cabinets with electrical equipment and microprocessor control and protection units; oil power transformers were replaced with fire-safe dry 6/0.4 kV transformers, complete 0.4 kV switchgear to supply low-voltage receivers.

The renovated RTP-64 distribution transformer substation is fitted with a fast-acting automatic load transfer system, which allows for an almost instantaneous switch to a backup power source, if necessary.

— The modernized automatic load transfer system and newly installed microprocessor control units allow to process changing data on power supply mode parameters faster, reducing the time of switching to the standby power source to 0.15 seconds, preventing emergency shutdown of power receivers, thereby increasing the reliability of production power supply, — points Evgeny Khasanov, Head, Operational Dispatching Division of the Chief Power Engineer Department.

Employees of Power Supply Shop, Electrical Laboratory, Shop of Technical Operation and Electrical Equipment Repair of Monomer plant, and Operational Dispatching Division took an active part in the substation reconstruction. Currently the whole complex of commissioning and testing works has been carried out, substation RTP-64 has been put into operation, and reliability of power supply to EP-355 production has been increased.
